Whose fault? I'm confused.... but i do beleave the tradgedy of the air nomads it supposed to draw its parrelles with the mascre the Buddist monks faced.... you know, they faced so many mascres i'm not sure which one it is most similar to.

it is possible that the fire nation captured a air bender and then tortured him to tell them where the air temples were

I think some stupid monk was jelous of Aang and betrayed the Airbenders then was later exacuted as a traitor to the Fire Nation. At least that's what the card game said.
