Fire is sooo not the strongest. Maybe it is the most powerful when it comes to raw energy, but it requires a constant stream of that power from the bender. It can almost be said that Fire is one of the weakest because you can not move or grib anything foreign with it. The reason the Fire nation is winning is because of a power boost, organized and well equiped armies, and numbers, not because their element is superior.

that is so true! it will be hard to say if there was an abundance of air benders, water benders, and earth benders.

Well, it really didn't matter how many air-benders there were because they had no organized army and the only ones left to defend the temples were old men, the rest seemed to have been traveling. That's why i beleive it was possible for some of them to escape. The waterbenders on the other hand, well it's obvios they are a formiddible force, even the Southern tribe took repeated raids to be overcome. It didn't happen over-night.

if you look at it as power from ability then air is strongest. for air can with stand all the other elements. water: water can be disrupted and displaced by earth, when water contacts earth it scatters and splashs losing force and mass. water can not in a single movement hurt earth. fire can cause water to evaperate and then it has no substance. air can shift the shape and placement of water, making it err in direction. earth: while earth does not burn fire can change the ions in earth making it weaker. water can erode earth changing its shape to suit waters needs. air can shift small pieces of earth unbalancing larger pieces. unless you count gale force winds they can uproute anything in there path. fire: water can put out fire, earth can smoother it, and air can cause it to either spead uncontrollablly or guide it to a place where it can't find fuel. Air: will keep its 'mass' and force while traveling under, around or over any object earth puts in its way. fire can only heat air and when hot and cold air mix you get tornados. water may be able to displace air's space in a container but air can travel where water cannot. there are of course other ways to look at it, this is just my view. if you have another idea please tell me.

So, i'm confused, which element do you think is the strongest. Air cannot be it because it is very weak. Although it can't be affected as much as the other elements, it can probably do the least amount of dammage from the four. That's why i say water is the strongest, it is more muliputive like air but it has substance and can do more damage. And all it needs to deflect harder elements, like earth, is for it to become ice.

Which makes it great for construction but does not make it the strongest.

All of the elements are strong, but in different ways, and that's how everything is meant to be, in my opinion.
