If you look back he has always leaned toward good. He got his scar defending Fire Nation soldiers. He threatened the water tribe but never hurt any one. In book one chapter 20, he only captured Aang, even though he had a chance to kill him. In book two, Zuko Aone, he didnot steal the food from the couple expecting a baby, he helped the famliy fix their roof, he taught the boy the proper way to use swords, and he fought to defend the boy and the town. When Iroh and he were on the boat heading into Ba Sing Sa, he helped Jet get good food and then shared it with others. In Tales of Ba Sing Sa, he put himself at risk to ease the disappointmet of the girl he took out.
