Is There a Happy Ending After All?
Written by: Keoshiwarrior376
I walked back and forth trying to remember what went wrong. Ever since I was a child I had problems. Now…now was different, now is the reason why I’m in jail.
Azula walked back and forth in her tiny dark cell. She had been doing this for the past week. Many guards were beginning to think her condition was getting worst. She had gone crazy. Her whole family had thought so. Fire lord Zuko even thought so. She had been locked up for 2 years now, and no one had ever visited her.
“No wonder, no one visits her, she’s crazy,” thought a cell guard. Until one day a person came, this person had a cloak on that covered his head and face. That person walked over to the doors of Azula’s cell. He had asked if he could go in. The guard nodded his head ‘’no.’’ Then the person took of his hood and reviled his face to the guards. The men’s gasps lead them to their feet, asking for, for forgiveness. The stranger just smiled.
“Were so sorry Avatar Aang we didn’t know it was you.” said the cell guards. Aang just smiled back. He then placed the hood back over his head and the guards soon opened the cell. He walked in slowly then after he was in, the doors where closed hard, with a loud click, which made Aang jump. Aang walked over to the barred cell and looked into the cage. Azula flashed her golden eyes to the stranger. Aang just smiled, happy to know that she’s still alive. She only glared back, as she did she got closer to the stranger, trying to find out who it was. After a while Aang finally took off his hood and let Azula see who he was. He then spoke in a sweet tone, as like speaking to a long distant friend.
“It’s nice to see you again Azula.” Her golden eyes grew as large as apples, for she was in shock.
“Aang… Is that really you? Why are you here?” asked Azula.
Aang replied saying...“Azula I’m here because of you.” She glared back.
“Why would he be here for me?” thought Azula. “No one ever cared about me…I wasn’t…crazy. She knew this because if she really was crazy she would be died by now. Aang was still there sitting…waiting. She got up and looked Aang right in the eye…asking.
“Do you think I’m crazy?” Aang nodded his head ‘’no.’’
“I just think you have your problems that you need to deal with.” answered Aang. All Azula could do was thank him. She felt relived inside. Finally one person in her life didn’t think she was crazy. Even better it was the Avatar! Aang now looked at Azula through the cold barred cage. He just sat there looking at her. Azula felt ashamed of what all she did in the past years to Aang. She was so mean to him in every way! Now…Now he was helping her when no one else was. Wouldn’t that be called friendship? Now thinking about it she was never kind to anyone. If she was ever kind, it usually never lasted that long. As Azula was deep in thought Aang thought it was the right time to leave. He would come back soon but now…now she needed some time to think. He got out of the cell and told the guards to tell no one that he was there. If anyone found out he was there, they would start asking him questions. And Aang didn’t want to deal with that now.
Thinking to himself Aang walked out of the prison still unknown to anyone. He got on Appa and left.
Morning came and went and Azula ate as she always did for breakfast. Last night as she went to bed, memories of old started to come back to her. They were memories of good and bad. When she fell asleep, she dreamed of an old memory when she was young.
~Old Memory of the Past~
“Azula! Azula! Stop that!” yelled Ursa. Azula stopped her fire bending and ran. This wasn’t the first time she got caught trying to burn Zuko. Actually this was the 5th time. The last time she got caught she was sent to her room without a bed time story or dessert. Those simple things she always got, and had been taken away from her. And she didn’t like it. “She was only 5 and Zuko was 3 it wasn’t like he couldn’t run away,” thought Azula to herself.
Ursa ran over to the crying child and picked him up, and started to sway back and forth trying to calm him down. With all the yelling going on Zuko’s father came down running to see what happened. Soon after words her father went over to Azula and bend down to talk to her.
That was the good days when father was kinder that mother. All mother cared about was her ‘Zuko.’ After that I became daddy’s little girl. I soon learned to control my bending. So that one day when daddy became ruler and mother and zuko were gone, that I too can be a ruler at daddy’s side.
~End of Memory~
Thinking back Azula felt so angry that her mother never cared about her. Her mother thought her own daughter was a monster.
