nwo that u mention it... ur rite, and she doesnt really kno much about the loss. in the epi's that shes been in katara hasnt talked about it around her.

But she does know that it happened because of Sokka, but she doesn't know that katara is touchy and sad about it. She might just be brousk enough to ask about even though she might regret it right away.

But that was part of the plot. Katara's mom was dead, but it was never revealed how. It kept it sad, but adding a hint of mystery so this fact could influence episodes later on.
