The episode begins with Aang and his friends beginning to prepare their search for Appa throughout the city, and finds Jet on the way.
Meanwhile, Zuko discovers that Aang's bison is in Ba Sing Se, as Aang is obviously looking for him by putting up flyers.
Zuko goes to show his uncle, but his uncle is not impressed, for he wishes that Zuko would stop his search for the Avatar, and tells him so.
Meanwhile, the gang is torn between rather trusting Jet or not, when he tells them that Appa is most likely in Lake Laogai, and they take is suggestion, him coming along.
Zuko also goes to Lake Laogai, now knowing that Appa is probably there, but while being there, he decides to let Appa go free, taking his uncle's advice and reason.
Aang and Jet attempt a battle against Long Feng, but Long Feng quickly wipes out Jet, leaving him to die, and Aang and his friends get out as quickly as possible, despite their sorrow toward Jet's future demise.
When they get out, they find Appa, and are happy.
