Zuko travels on his 'ride' with what little water he has left, and already as a good sign in him, he decides not to attack a pregnant lady.
Anyways, he travels along and comes upon this small town to get some food, but can't get much, and was stolen, anyways by the 'earthbenders that are protectors'.
The boy thanked Zuko for what he did, not ratting him out for messing with the earthbenders, so they eventually became friends, the two working together.
However, Zuko, how good he was at broadswords, still couldn't beat the toughest earthbender of them all, so he had to use firebending, which got him exiled out of the village forever. He was on his way again. Alone.
