The three members of the group decide to help settle some of the differences between two different tribes, so they go along with the tribes for a day's walk across The Great Divide.
Though unfortunately, both of the tribes brought food, which would attract canion crawlers, so the crawlers attacked the earthbender, and they were trapped in there unless they could find a way out.
Eventually, though, through some name-calling, battles, and sword-fights, the two tribes, and Katara, Aang, and Sokka, all made it back over, after Aang told a lie.
