Katara decides to pretend to earthbend so she can go over to the place where they are locked up and get him out, so she gets Aang's help by 'pretending to earthbend', and it worked.
Katara finds, however, that Haru and his father have no hope in escaping, so she gets help herself, and the gang successfully gets all the prisoners off the secluded prison.
