Sokka is a sarcastic and funny character that is almost comic relief, but does, of course, have a strong purpose in the show of Avatar: The Last Airbender. He is Katara's brother and Hakoda's son.
Book 1: Water
Sokka is first seen fighting with his sister, Katara, about hunting and fishing, when something alters his life habitat forever: helping the Avatar. He goes along with Aang, the Avatar, and Katara, his sister, in order to help Aang master the four elements, but they come upon many problems while doing so, running into many villans, including Jet, who which turned out to be a very bad person, first noticed by Sokka, who saved the day in Chapter 10: Jet. In Chapter 15, the gang finally gets to see Bato again (except for Aang, who hadn't ever seen him before), whih pleases Sokka greatly. He, in Chapter 18, sees, according to him, a beautiful Princess named Yue, but is engaged, eventhough they are both in love with each other. At the end of the book, he feels great sorrow for her sacrafice, but always remembers her as the moon, for that is what she is from now on.
Book 2: Earth
Sokka notices in book one, that the Earthbending general trying to get Aang to go into the Avatar state, after a long time, that it was a wrong thing. In Chapter 7, Sokka finds out that a new member has been added to the gang, and her name is Toph. Sokka, of course, is skeptical at her blindness at first, but is astonished by her unique ability when he sees that she is a key importance to helping the gang out. In the last episode/chapter of book two, Sokka and Toph and others are trapped, but thanks to Toph, they are free and Sokka arrives just in time to get to ride off with their newly found bison.
Book 3: Fire
Sokka finds himself to be the man with a plan in this book, for he is the one that plans the whole trip out, seeing that the four no longer have anything to help them (excluding people, like his father), so he comes up with the plans. Sokka finds himself, in Chapter 4, to obtain [from a sword master] a great and unique sword that he uses in the near future for the Day of Black Sun, or Chapter 10. During that period, Sokka considers himself a true warrior, and his plans go into action mostly then.
