But does that affect how the "chakra" flows? I mean other benders don't seem to make any difference between genders, why should water bending be any different?

oka well this is how i see it over all. i think both males and females can heal. just because katara is the only healer we know of i believe the chakra flow of either a male or female doesn't matter chakra doesn't discriminate. So if your chakra can heal and your a male then heal your butt off!

I have a theory. If healing is a special water-bending ability maybe it's genetic? I mean it seems that bending abilities are genetic, so why not?

nothing is genetic (i think)
but that thread is really sexist LIKE women are meant to fight & heal and men only fight.
but i think so. men and women should be equal!

What? And it is seen repeatedly that it is genetic. What is the point of seperate nations if bending just happens radomly. You'ld have different benders everywhere.

well i heard that it is HOW they grow up. like air nomad grow up in air temples. AND why those ppl in the "painted Lady" couldn't bend is because they lived around water but didn't THINK of water bending. (my theory don't diss)

Then why aren't there more water benders at the South Pole. And why is the only water bender there desended from the north pole, where there are so many benders they can spare them to do mundane tasks like fill up the locks. It is totally genetics, if its how they grow up then almost the entire population would be benders, not just a select few.
Plus, the FIRE LORD. I mean they have to ensure he is a fire bender, right? It is mere chance that a decendant of Roku, the AVATAR, and an amazing bender is married into the family?

there probably are many more waterbenders then we saw at the south pole
as for north pole. they don't WANT to be a bender but katara does (for a reason idk) that might be why she is a bender.
i don't know how they do the silly Fire Lord thing and i don;t care. the probably (knowing the fire nation) if the first born can't bend then the have another kid and kill the first or give away.

Katara has stated that she is the only water bender on the South Pole, in the first episode. Also, healing is the ability of the female water benders, but they are still stated as "benders" so if they were taught they could probably still bend if they wanted to.

This isn't about whether or not they should or they want to its if the physically can. And i am telling you right now that i am not sexist, i am just curios as to wether or not male water benders have healing ablities. Weither they use them or not is a whole 'nouther thing.

then i say they can because that would be like saying a woman can't fight. both are physically okay to heal.
