She is evil she was bred and raised that way. In the beach episode she was jealous and played out Ty Lee's suggestion about the boy. All Azula wanted was a strong, powerful, wealthy mate. She did not care about the boy. And on the beach with Zuko and the girls she said that her mother thought her a monster and that it hurt ( but that Ursa was right). But how hurt did she seem?? Not much she was still able to pick apart the others.

Yaeh, i mean she was really hurt when her friends left, i think she really cared about them. I think the creators are isolating her either to make her good or just have her go completelty insane.
