Chapter 9
[shadow=red,left,300][glow=red,2,300]Uh-oh[/glow][/shadow]
“Alright so I suppose we will start with the basics such as stances, mechanics….”I let my voice trail off expecting her to praise me for my knowledge of bending.[shadow=red,left,300][glow=red,2,300]Uh-oh[/glow][/shadow]
“Actually,” she said mater-o-factly, “We are going to start by moving a rock” she finished, then pushed me hard.
“Don’t pu--” I started until I remembered our talk before. I was pretty sure that this would count as talking-back, “Sorry” I said.
“That’s right you are sorry.” she said. “now go next to that rock.” she said pointing to a rock strait in front of us. “Your going to bend it”
“Well I knew that” I Mumbled under my breath.
“What was that?” she asked me, having all to much fun with this.
“I said I am blessed to be working with the Greatest Earthbender on the Planet.” I said dangerously close to sarcastic. I started moving toward the rock.
“That‘s what I thought you said. Now let‘s go steamy. Stop dawdling” she said.
I stopped in my tracks. “What did you just call me?” I asked in a sinister manner,
“Steamy, now walk up to the rock. I can guarantee you it doesn’t bite.” she said this as if I was a pompous idiot.
“Of course it won’t bite. Rocks don’t have mouths. That’s not the point though you are calling me steamy. Why” I asked sounding almost desperate for an answer.
“Everyone has a nick name, and yours is steamy” she said. As if she was my equal. She had no right.
“Yes, but why steamy?” I asked.
“Well for two reasons” she started. “the first, your parents were from the Water Tribe and the Fire Nation and water and fire makes steam. Second off, you have a temper. That’s all that really needs to be said.” That stabbed me deep. I can’t believe she’d make fun of my parents.
“So your making fun of me?” I asked in an astonished and angry tone.
“JUST GET TO THE ROCK” She yelled. Agni! for a short blind woman, she sure was scary.
“Okay!” I said moving quickly.
“Okay so this is how you move a rock.” she showed me a stance. “This is a horse stance” she said slapping her legs, “You need a strong stance to become a good Earthbender. Then all you do is punch out, you have to be strong and steady, like a rock, to be able to do any Earthbending at all.” she punched out and the rock slammed into the hill she had made. I decided to step in and created a rock(though a lot smaller then hers) for myself. “Wow someone was watching, good job Steamy, this should be a piece of cake.”
“I thought it was a rock” I said sarcastically. I was going to get her back for the comment she said previously.
“Just move it” she said exasperated. I stood in a horse stance and punched at the rock. It went almost as far as hers.
“I DID IT” I yelled at the top of my lungs. I started jumping around until I found myself flying high above where I was before. Wow, Airbending and Earthbending all in the same day! I looked over to the side. “OH MY AGNI” I yelled, but not from the flying. I saw a battalion of hot air balloons with my mother leading them. Great another bad day.
