maybe if they got together now then Sokka, toph, Suki, and/or her dad would assure aang katara would be safe for the fight. So he would trust them to keep her safe

But you forget the awesome power of blind love. Aang isn't just in love with Katara, he's infatuated with her. If they got together he would be over the moon, and his wanting to do anything to protect that feeling, and her, would outweigh anything else even logic. And it would be Katara who would try to convince him other wise, not the others in the group. Katara can totally take care of herself.

OF COUSRE SHE CAN (so can toph) ALL the girls in avatar (most at lest) can take care of them selves
Aang should learn that (sokka already learned it)

It could only have ill effects, and in responce to ktw even though we all know the capabilities of the girls of Avatar (one of the reasons i love it!) that will not stop Aang from being over protective and irrational. I mean he lost all of his family by out liveing them and then found out they died a horrible fiery death. I think he has some issues.

I don't think if Aang and Katara got together he would become irrational and protective to the extreme where he can't perform his Avatar duties. If anything else during this series, Aang has grown up. He has matured. Katara pointed it out during DOBS. And if you think that he would try to hold Katara back you have to be mistaken. He would have asked her not to fight during DOBS. He is in love with her and doesn't have to be in a romantic relationship to seriously care about her. He doesn't have to be in a relationship to "hold her back" (though I can't even see Aang trying anymore.) |

I don't know. It is true that he probably wouldn't go crazy protective like Sokka did with Suki, but it still would be a distraction. He would still worry, and if the Fire Lord placed an off hand coment about Katara carefully enough (which i think he is more than capable of doing) it could cost Aang the battle.

After "the Headband" and "day of black sun" i think he has the gust besides he has tried before to tell her. He has the gust but stuff gets in the way

He didn't tell her, he showed her. That is completely different. It takes much more nerve to try and explain his feelings instead of showing them. He is akward, Aang won't talk about it unless he is forced to.
